Royal Oak’s National Night Out to Fight Crime

Last week, I had an opportunity to meet The Citizens Crime Prevention Council. I am happy to announce that they are currently working hard to plan and prepare for this year’s National Night Out Event. This year the event will take place on Tuesday August 7th, 2007.

For those of you who do not know about National Night Out, the annual National Night Out event is designed to:

• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness within Royal Oak
• Generate support, and partnership in, local anti-crime programs in Royal Oak
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in Royal Oak
• Send a message to criminals letting them know that Royal Oak neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

National Night Out will be a great opportunity to get together with your neighbors and get to know each other better. When neighbors know and care about each other, they feel more comfortable reporting crime and suspicious behavior to police. More people watching out for each other and calling 911 will make our city a safer place.
